Attacks

My sister once told me that she never met anyone that Satan would attack quite as much as me.   It's so clear that every time I make great strides to get my life in order, something happens.

I started coughing Friday night when I went to bed.  I thought it was odd because I'd felt fine all day and even then.   Saturday morning, I was a wee bit stuffy, but nothing unusual.  Sunday it was getting a bit worse, so I got Robitussin to add to my line up of meds.   Then Monday morning I was exhausted, so I stayed in bed until shortly after noon, when a coworker called.   My voice sounded so deep and manly that she thought she had the wrong number.   While I was trying to tell her it was me, I started coughing uncontrollably.   Now it had decided to stick around.    The purple bags under my eyes were further proof.

I worked Monday night, but noticed a few times that I felt very odd; like I was trying to fight off a fever, maybe.   Then I noticed that the stairs I can usually jog up and down, wore me out!!    I was exhausted once I got to the top.   I knew I couldn't breathe deeply without setting off a coughing fit, but this weakness reminded me of when I had bronchitis.    I don't want that, so I'm taking meds and trying to let my body have as much rest as it needs.

Today, my eyes kept watering, I kept sneezing, my nose was runny like a faucet, and my throat was killing me.   My right leg hurt all last night and this morning also.    I called in sick to work and finally crawled out of bed at 6:30 to eat something and take medicine.  (I weighed 203.8 when I got up.)

Two cans of chicken noodle soup, 3/4 cup strawberries, and 1/8 cup blueberries was my dinner.

For now, I'll sit at the table, drink water, work on my computer, and do laundry until my body tells me to go to bed again.    I have too many things to do tomorrow to call in sick for work, so this day HAS to be the cure!   :p

(My personal/emotional life has hit a small snag also, so reevaluation is needed.)

Like I said….attacks.   You'd think I'd be looking out for it better.   Well, stubbornness can be a good thing when I direct it towards goals like NOT STAYING DOWN!!   :)

Tomorrow is a fresh start!

Reflections

I was curious, so I went back and scanned my old posts from 2011.  I found that I was struggling for awhile to shake my sinus infection that I'd had to take Prednisone for back in Jan. 2011.   All the way through April, I was getting regular headaches and feeling tired and dizzy.   I am wondering if it was that summer or the next that I went to a specialist and had my "nose job."     At any rate, I remember thinking then that I'd always have to deal with it, but I look back and feel sorry for that girl.   I'm so thankful for my health now!!!

Here was my weight loss pattern in 2011:
Jan. 31 - 197 lbs
Feb. 1 - Day 3 of South Beach Diet
Feb. 4 - 192 lbs
Feb. 18 - 189 lbs
Mar. 3 - 180 lbs  (Lost 20 pounds!)
Mar. 14 - 177 lbs
Apr. 25 - 180 lbs
June 9 - 178 lbs

Then, I hit a snag in life, gained 10 pounds in one week, got diagnosed with high blood pressure, and fought through anger at myself on many levels.

Healing is a process that takes time.     I am so thankful to be on the other side of the "darkness" and to have hope and joy once again!

Monday, April 13, 2015 So far, SUCCESS!

So two weeks ago, I started The South Beach Diet.  It worked for me back in 2008, and it worked for me again in 2015!
Monday, March 30, I weighed 215.2 pounds.
Monday, April 6, I weighed 209.6 pounds.
Monday, April 13 (TODAY), I weigh 205.4 pounds!!
Of course, in Phase 1 of this diet, there is no sugar & no carbs, so the weight comes off rather quickly.  In Phase 2, which begins today, I slowly reintroduce healthy sugars back in to my life, so the weight will be slower to come off.

However, because I have so much food around my house that doesn't fit on the South Beach Diet plan, I hate to waste, and I need to save money, I am going to modify my personal plan a bit.

Back in 1999, when I took a semester off of college, I lost 15 pounds using Slim Fast.    Some friends left me 24 Premier Protein shakes (30 g protein, 160 calories, 1 g sugar, 450 mg potassium, 210 mg sodium, 20 mg cholest., 3 g fat, and 3 g dietary fiber), so I will use those before they expire in May.   I will continue to use the new knowledge I have gained to keep making healthy food choices and I will continue to weigh myself on a regular basis, so I don't gain back what I've lost.

Exercise - still a lofty goal

Money - Paying off bills slowly, but still far in debt

Scripture memory - I've fallen behind on this, but not terribly far.  I'll catch up soon.

So, I will celebrate my victory of losing 10 pounds in 2 weeks!    It feels great to be able to bend and move better now that some of my fat is gone!   :)

April 2, 2015

I started the South Beach Diet on Monday.  This is Thursday.  So far, so good.   :)    I started at 215.8 lbs on Monday morning and this morning I am at 212.8 lbs.    This is just the first phase of the diet and I'm expected to lose weight rather quickly this week and next because I'm cutting out carbs and sugar, but then I'll slowly add sugar and good carbs back in, so I won't lose weight as quickly.

I've also been reading a bit in another book, Healthy Heart Miracle Diet.  It's been so interesting that I've been scanning and reading a bit here and there, feeling like I'm learning more and more valuable information.   But today I'm going to read Chapter 2:  What Really Causes Heart Attacks? and then add a few tidbits here for me to use as a future reference.
